Most questions are about where the train data comes from and why it sometimes disagrees with the board on the concourse. If this page doesn't cover it, the form at the bottom reaches a real person, and it is the only thing on this site that sends anything anywhere.

Common questions

Why is a train missing from the board?

ChooTrack shows exactly what the rail data feeds publish for that station. A service can be absent because it was cancelled and withdrawn, because it passes through without stopping, or because the operator has not published it yet. If it has already gone, drag the scrubber backwards: departed services reappear with their actual time and platform.

A train on the physical board but not in ChooTrack is worth reporting. Send the station, the scheduled time and the destination.

Why is a delay different from the station board?

The station's screens and ChooTrack's feeds do not update at the same moment, so a minute or two of disagreement is normal. The board comes from National Rail Enquiries and the train's position from Network Rail's movement feed; during disruption the two can briefly disagree with each other too. Where a platform is only booked rather than confirmed, the app says Est. plat.

For anything time-critical, such as the last connection of the night, treat the station's own displays and staff as the authority.

What does Guess my train do with my location?

It takes one location fix when you tap the button, sends it to ChooTrack's own server, matches it against live services nearby, and gives you a shortlist. The coordinate is not stored, not logged and not shared. There is no background location, ever. It is a guess: on a busy corridor several trains can look equally likely, so check the destination before you track. Details in the privacy policy.

Why does a disruption show on my train when it's about a different line?

The railway's notices name a stretch of line, and ChooTrack shows a notice on a train only when that train calls at a station the notice names. "On this route" means the line, not necessarily your seat. If a notice looks plainly wrong for a train, tell us the train and the notice.

Where does my Spot collection live?

In your own private iCloud database if you are signed in, otherwise on the phone. It never reaches ChooTrack's server. Photographs stay on the phone. Export everything as a spreadsheet from the Spot tab, or switch the tab off in Settings.

The Live Activity didn't appear, or stopped updating

Live Activities need iOS 17 and Live Activities enabled for ChooTrack in Settings. Updates are pushed by our server, so a phone with no signal catches up when it has one. A tracked journey is dropped two minutes after the train arrives, or immediately if the railway's feed stops recognising it. Untrack and re-track to start again.

How does it work on iPhone Duo?

Open flat, the board sits on one panel and the train you tap opens on the other. Half-folded like a book, the panels split the same way. Stood on a table, what you read is on the upright half and what you touch is on the flat half, so the keyboard never covers the results.

Does it work outside Great Britain?

No. ChooTrack covers National Rail stations in England, Scotland and Wales, plus the Underground, DLR and every tram and metro in Britain.
